A faction of the Kenya Kwanza party has dismissed the possibility of a conciliatory handshake between President William Ruto and Azimio Leader Raila Odinga. These leaders are close allies of President Ruto. They expressed their concerns in Nandi County. They warned the Executive branch against power-sharing initiatives. These initiatives aim to quell the ongoing anti-government demonstrations in the nation due to high taxation and borrowing.
No Need for a Handshake – Kenya Kwanza
These leaders were at a career fair in Nandi Hills Constituency. They shared their belief there. They think a handshake between President Ruto and Raila Odinga could risk the Kenya Kwanza Manifesto’s execution. Kipchumba, one of the leaders, stated, “We are telling our president we do not want a handshake with the opposition.”
Condemnation of Maandamano and Opposition to Power-Sharing
Sloya, another leader, added, “We condemn Maandamano and want the leaders to sit down and talk. But we won’t encourage our president to have talks of power-sharing with the Opposition.” The leaders also accused the Azimio Chief of undermining the government for personal gain.
Accusations Against Raila Odinga
“We know what Raila Odinga wants…he does not want Kenyans to have cheap unga he wants to be called on the table apewe nusu mkate,” Wandeto said. “He wants to get into the government using a backdoor.” The Kenya Kwanza politicians have on many occasions, insinuated that Raila is taking advantage of the challenging economic times to find a way into the government.
Kenya Kwanza praises the Court of Appeal.
The leaders also praised the Court of Appeal. The court had lifted the suspension of the Finance Act 2023. Also, this happened despite public and Opposition outcry.”Hakuna nchi itaendelea bila ushuru…we must collect taxes. I want to thank the court of appeal for rising above the politics of deceit and overturning the decision of the High Court and lifting the suspension on the Finance Bill,” Kipchumba said.
