Kenya Railways has launched a new Premium class coach. Each trip costs Ksh12,000.
Luxury Features
The Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) has added reclining seats to the Premium class. These seats offer passengers a luxurious experience. Transport Principal Secretary Mohamed Daghar inspected the new coaches at the Port Reitz terminal.
“The coach has modern features designed to elevate the customer experience,” Kenya Railways announced on social media.
Daghar was joined by several officials, including Kenya Ports Authority Managing Director Captain William Ruto, Kenya Railways Chairman Abdi Duale, and Managing Director Philip Mainga.
Enhanced Comfort
The premium class offers fully reclining seats that convert into beds. Passengers enjoy ample legroom and space. The seats are padded and upholstered with high-quality materials, combining leather and fabric for maximum comfort.
Unlike standard wagons, each Premium wagon features 28 seats to ensure sufficient legroom.
“Fully reclining seats for your comfort and relaxation. KR Premium is set to redefine luxury travel with exclusive amenities and top-notch comfort,” stated Kenya Railways.
Additional Amenities
The Premium coach offers extra storage, including space for shoes. Specialized catering services will also be available.
The coach’s design ensures privacy and exclusivity, allowing passengers to work, relax, or enjoy the scenery.
“Premium Class passengers will have access to VIP lounges and benefit from priority boarding and disembarkation,” Kenya Railways stated.

Currently, ordinary tickets from Nairobi to Mombasa cost Ksh1,500 for economy class and Ksh4,500 for first class.
