Governors from Nyanza, specifically Anyang’ Nyong’o (Kisumu), James Orengo (Siaya), and Gladys Wanga (Homa Bay), have called upon Interior CS Kithure Kindiki to marshal GSU officers to mitigate the strife in Sondu.

In a unified statement unveiled to Kiongos.com, the governors voiced their discontent with the unsuccessful endeavors by police to restore calm, law, and order.

Remarkably, they highlighted that police from the Kericho side have either significantly endorsed the warriors or disregarded their assaults on the inhabitants.

They fervently recommend that the government promptly dispatch a GSU squad to the region to reestablish peace and safety, as expressed by the governors.

Under the Azimio La Umoja banner, the trio noted ongoing skirmishes in Nyakach Sub-County, Kisumu. Particularly, the unrest around the Sondu market has lasted two days.

They blamed adjacent communities in Kericho County. This is despite a recent NCIC warning against such statements.

Their statement mentioned seven reported fatalities. Additionally, numerous cattle were stolen, and homes were burnt. However, Kiongos.com couldn’t verify these claims independently.

Addressing the boundary discord, Nyong’o, Orengo, and Wanga called for a swift resolution. They urged adherence to legitimate, precise governmental procedures.

President William Ruto hasn’t addressed the region’s insecurity, with his Nyanza tour set to begin on Friday, October 6.

Meanwhile, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki visited Sondu on July 15. He condemned the attacks, warning those masking aggression as border disputes.

On October 4, Nyanza MPs, spearheaded by Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi, voiced demands to the government. They urged prompt action to prevent an escalation.

“There’s a risk that unchecked killings may leave victims feeling forsaken by the state, pushing them to self-defense,” Wandayi articulated.
