Kenya Kwanza-affiliated Members of County Assemblies (MCAs) have announced that pro-government protestors may also take to the streets.
In a Monday statement, the MCAs asserted that government supporters have the right to protest and defend the government if planned protests proceed.
“No one has a monopoly on violence. Supporters of the government can also mobilize and hit the streets to defend it. This would escalate the situation,” warned the UDA MCAs.
Criticism of Protestor Demands
The leaders criticized the protestors, arguing that their demands on the government are unreasonable and must cease.
“Unreasonable demands on the President and the Government must cease, especially where the demands lack constitutional or legal basis,” the MCAs stated.
They added that dissatisfied citizens should express their concerns during the 2027 general elections.
Call for an End to Violence
The MCAs condemned the violence against businesses, labeling it as actions disguised as peaceful protests.
They emphasized their commitment to upholding the rule of law, advocating for legal means to change the government.

“Kenya is a high-standing democracy. It has no place for criminal and unconstitutional changes of government,” the statement read.
Appeal to the President
The MCAs urged President William Ruto to form a Cabinet that addresses the challenges facing Kenyans. This statement followed President Ruto’s declaration on Sunday to “protect the nation,” citing he had given everyone a chance to voice their views.
Speaking in Bomet County after a church service, the President addressed Gen Z, warning them that, “Enough is enough.”
